BrickWiki:Creating the logo
From BrickWiki
The BrickWiki logo was created from an LDraw file, converted with L3P and rendered with POV-Ray. This all was done by Jamie Bliss.
Inspiration
Note: This section is not written from NPOV.
My idea for the logo started out with a simple piece that could fit in the image: a red brick 2x2. However, I later decided to take a bit from Wikipedia's "puzzle ball" and decided to break it up into different parts. I thought that multiple colors would be best. So I laid it out in MLCAD and started rendering.
The LDraw portion
The LDraw file is fairly simple, since it's only six plate 1x2s, plus some lights to be used by L3P later.
Rendering
After taking the output of L3P, the POV file was tweaked.
- Several of the lights were removed.
- Light gray was added to LGEO. White was too bright. (TODO: Add instructions to add it)
It was rendered to a transparent PNG with antialiasing using MegaPov.
Post processing
All image manipulation was done in The GIMP.
After taking the output of L3P, the POV file was tweaked.
- cropped
- scaled down
- added text
